Facebook New Tool: The social media platform under Meta has special arrangements so that groups can automatically reject any post containing fake information.
Facebook is taking steps to prevent the spread of fake news or information. Special arrangements have been made on that social media platform under Meta since Wednesday, so that groups can automatically reject any post containing fake information.
About 1.6 billion people use Facebook groups (FB Groups). In all of these groups, strangers come together and engage in a variety of discussions, be it child rearing, domestic politics, or international politics. And that’s where the danger begins.
Experts believe that this Facebook group is a very simple target, where all kinds of fake news, information is deliberately spread. It easily spreads information among a large section of like-minded people.
Maria Smith, vice president of Facebook App Communities, said the front-line social media has the power to reject any fake news directly through a third party fact check. Administrators of Facebook groups can use that software to protect their group from being automatically disseminated by fake news.
Mark Zuckerberg himself created the first group on a worldwide social networking site. The goal was to bring together like-minded people who were interested in the same thing or engaged in the same work.
Nina Yankovich and Cindy Otis, who conducted research on fake information in 2020, said that their research showed that some people, whether local or foreign, could easily spread fake news by abusing features such as privacy and community.
For the past several years, there has been increasing pressure on Facebook to stop spreading fake news. In the last two years, the same allegations have been made everywhere, whether it is the Covid epidemic or the India-US vote. And during the recent Russian aggression, the same fears remain in the case of one of the world’s largest social networking sites.
In the wake of this, a ‘suspend’ tool was also brought by the company on Wednesday. So, the group admin can suspend any member or group of members for some time if they see any kind of harassment. Then those members in that group will not be able to post or comment anything.
Even from this time, admin members can ask members for e-mail ID or QR code to join the group. Said Smith.
AFP is working on fact checking with Facebook at the moment. The work is being conducted in 24 languages in about 70 countries.
