The Personal Information Law approved by the Cabinet of Saudi Arabia has been amended.
According to this amendment, the party breaking the engagement will not have the right to take back the gifts given during the engagement.
According to the Saudi media report, under this law, the affected party, i.e. the one who broke the engagement, can demand the return of the gifts from the one who broke the engagement.
In such a case, the breaching party is required to return all gifts or, if lost, to pay an equivalent amount.
The law also specifies that if one of the parties dies after the engagement, the demand to return the gifts will be void.
According to the law, the goods given by the boy to the girl during the engagement will be considered as gifts.
